"U fistìnu", A huge float known as the “Carro” carrying the statue of the patron Saint paraded through the town, Torchlight processions, fireworks, music bands and performances turn Palermo into an open air theater for one week.

This popular celebration features many pagan rituals dating back to the worship of the goddess of earth and fertility, Demeter; also linked to the celebration of the summer solstice. On the walls, balconies and on the streets are spread out the colorful “pizzare”: typical carpets weaved with the old pedal loom using fabri cut outs.

Trapani - pasqua, la processione dei misteri (Easter Holy Week, Procession of the “Misteri”)

The “Misteri”, wooden sculptures representing the Passion of Christ, are carried around during the festival by members of the city’s guilds. They date back to the 17th and 18th century. One of the island’s most famous religious events staged on Good Friday.
