Santa Maria di Leuca

The town stands astride the area in between two rocky tongues, at the extreme tip of the heel of Italy. From the headland looking out over where the waters of three seas - the Aegean, the Ionian and the Adriatic - meet and mix, it is possible to view the high mountains of Albania and of Corfu. The soft sedimentary rock of the headland below is riddled with caves showing evidence of human settlements from the stone age. The waters off Leuca are ideal for kite surfing and scuba-diving.
